Use your own contract wording

Write your house terms once and every new contract starts from them, with each pup's details filled in. The legally required part is still added for you, so it can't go stale.

If you have your own contract terms, you shouldn't have to paste them into every pup by hand — that's how wording quietly drifts between littermates. Save them once and Whelpkeep uses them for every new contract.

Two ways to set it up

From a contract you've already written — the quickest way if you've just finished editing one:

  1. Open the sale and scroll to the contract.
  2. Edit it until it says what you want.
  3. Click Save as my default.

Whelpkeep swaps that pup's details for placeholders so the wording travels to the next pup, and offers you a link to check the result. Do check it — the swap is a convenience, not a guarantee.

From scratch — open Account & Settings → Contract wording, click Start from the standard wording, edit it, and Save my wording.

Placeholders

A placeholder is a word in double curly brackets that Whelpkeep replaces with that pup's own detail:

Buyer: {{buyer_name}} ({{buyer_email}})
Puppy: {{pup_name}}, born {{date_of_birth}}
Price: {{price}} — paid to date {{deposit_paid}}, balance {{balance}}

The full list is on the Contract wording page. It covers your kennel details, the buyer, the pup, and the money.

Note — Placeholders only fill details Whelpkeep actually holds. Something you track yourself — a collar colour, a puppy-party date — just type into the wording and edit it on the individual contract.

What you never have to write

Whelpkeep adds the legally required part to the bottom of every contract by itself:

  • Your state's identification & compliance details (the stamp: breeder ID, microchip, dates).
  • The Australian Consumer Law note.
  • The NSW 3-day / 50% return guarantee, on NSW litters.
  • The signature block.

Leave all of it out of your wording. Because Whelpkeep composes it fresh each time, it stays right as the rules change — and it can't be deleted by accident. If you paste a copy in, Whelpkeep strips it back out when you save.

What this does and doesn't change

  • Existing contracts are untouched. This only changes what the next contract starts from.
  • You can still edit any individual contract before you send it, exactly as before.
  • Nothing changes until you opt in. Leave the wording empty and you keep Whelpkeep's standard contract.
  • To go back, open Contract wording and choose Use the standard contract instead.

A word on your terms

Your wording is yours, but the Australian Consumer Law sits above any contract. A term labelled "non-refundable" can't override a buyer's rights where you can't supply the puppy — which is why the consumer-guarantees note stays on every contract. See Puppy deposits & refunds for how that works in practice.

Send it for signature as usual — see Sell a pup. For what each contract field means, see the Sales & contracts reference.
